Police Registration Certificate scheme abolished

The Home Office has confirmed that the police registration scheme ended on 4 August 2022.

Passport holders of the following nationalities were previously required to register with the police after arrival in the UK and update the police with changes to their personal details:

Afghanistan, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Georgia, Hong Kong SAR, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Palestine, Peru, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Yemen, Stateless or travelling on a non-national document (i.e. Travel Document).

The Home Office statement confirming the suspension of the scheme can be found here.

Taking effect from 4 August 2022, the policy has been withdrawn. New arrivals in the UK will no longer have to register with the police and existing Police Registration Certificate holders will not need to update their certificates for future applications.

If you have already registered with the Police, it was previously a requirement to update your Police Registration Certificate with changes to your details such as your address and new Biometric Residence Permit (“BRP”). You no longer need to do this.

It is still a requirement that changes to your address and personal details should be reported to the Home Office.
