From January 2024, not all postgraduate students will be eligible to bring family members to the UK.
Under previous rules, international students were able to bring their dependant family members (partner and under-18 children) to the UK while they complete their studies.
Under new rules, students on courses starting after 1 January 2024 will now only be able to bring dependents to the UK if:
- The Student is studying a doctorate (PhD or DPhil) or a postgraduate research degree; or
- The Student is government sponsored.
Importantly, dependents who are already in the UK will be able to extend their leave after 1 January 2024.
Family members of undergraduate students remain ineligible for dependent visas.
