Reporting issues with your Biometric Residence Permit ('BRP') card

You can report various issues with your BRP online. For example, there is incorrect information such as a spelling mistake or the wrong date of birth, or if the card was damaged when it arrived.

Any issues should be reported within 10  days of its arrival, otherwise you will incur a fee to correct any issues.  The Home Office will usually respond to you within five working days. The current fee is £75.20 and as part of the application, you will need to enrol your biometrics which attracts the UKVCAS fee.

If your BRP card is lost or stolen

You can report the loss or stolen of your BRP card from inside or outside the UK.

If your card was lost or stolen from within the UK, you must report the loss to the police and to the Home Office, within three months of losing it. If your BRP card was valid for three months or less and you will be extending your leave, you may wish to consider submitting this application without applying for a new BRP card separately as you will be issued with a new BRP card, if your application is successful.

If you are outside the UK at the time of loss of your BRP card, you will need to apply for a replacement BRP visa. This will allow you to enter the UK once. The fee for this application is £154 and you will need to enrol your biometrics at the visa application centre.

If you find your BRP card after reporting it lost, the reported card will no longer be valid as the Home Office would have cancelled the lost card. When the replacement card arrives, you should cut the old BRP card into pieces and using a non-window envelope, you must post it to Returns Unit, PO Box 195, Bristol , BS20 1BT.

Replacing your BRP card will not give your more time to stay in the UK if your leave is expiring. For example, you have been granted leave to remain for two and half years. Your BRP card is valid from 8 April 2019 to 24 September 2021, and you lose your card in January 2021. When the new BRP card arrives, the new card will also have an expiry date of 24 September 2021.

Please note from 1 January 2025, you will not need  BRP card to prove immigration status as Home Office intends to replace BRP cards with eVisas. Home Office will provide further information in due course.
