Permission under the Ukraine Schemes will no longer count towards the 10 year long residence route

The Home Office has announced that as of 18 December 2024, time spent in the UK under one of the Ukraine Schemes will no longer be permission that can be counted towards the 10 years of continuous residence necessary to settle on the basis of long residence.

That means that anyone whose period of continuous residence includes permission under one of these schemes will no longer be eligible to apply for ILR on this basis after this date unless they switch into another route, restarting the 10 year clock.

Anyone affected by this who has finished their 10 years or is just about to is encouraged to seek legal advice about whether it is possible for them to apply before this deadline.
